My approach to therapy is to work collaboratively with my clients. The goal is to bring, clarity, understanding and insight to their concerns; to improve emotional well being; and to facilitate the changes they wish to make. My focus is on the positive; my emphasis is on compassion for oneself.
My theoretical orientation is psychodynamic and holistic. I believe in the interconnectedness of body-mind-spirit and the power of the mind to create our reality. When appropriate, I use techniques such as relaxation, guided visualization, and breathing exercises to promote change.
I have been providing psychological services since 1989. I earned my doctoral degree (Psy.D.) from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology (now Argosy University) in Chicago, Illinois. I am licensed in the State of Oregon and am a member of the Oregon Psychological Associations and abide by the codes of conduct and ethical principles of the American Psychological Association. Before moving to Oregon in late 2001 from Chicago, I maintained a private practice and was a staff psychologist at the University of Illinois at Chicago Counseling Center.
I treat a variety of conditions including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, life transitions, childhood sexual abuse, and relationships issues, especially improving communications. I work with adults. and couples. I do not see children or adolescents.
Outside of work, I enjoy exploring new places, adventure travel, reading, hiking, and time with family.
Please Note: Several websites, whose content is outside of my control, have incorrectly listed me as a psychiatrist. I am not a psychiatrist and do not prescribe or dispense medications.
